Should I cancel my iTunes Match subscription for Apple Music?

Now that we are only a few weeks away from the official Apple Music release I've been scratching my head trying to figure out if we still need to have iTunes Match subscriptions.

Do you still need iTunes Match when Apple Music is released?

What is iTunes Match

iTunes Match is a way to stream all of your content wherever you are, including music you own that isn't held within the iTunes Store. As a subscriber who is likely to be an Apple Music owner I'm left wondering what I should do with my iTunes Match subscription.

Confusion

There are several mentions of iTunes Match and Apple Music together on the Apple site so I thought I would do some further digging to see what the deal is here I.e. if you are an existing iTunes Match and plan on using Apple Music, do you need to keep it running?

What does it say on the Apple Music Site?

To me this says that your entire collection now lives in iCloud, like iTunes Match it will upload any that it doesn't have in the iTunes Store.

Now this is where it could get confusing, to me this says that iTunes Match will continue and it is being treated as a different service to Apple Music.  I'm not sure why they have put complementary in there because to me you why would it compliment it, based on the first image you wouldn't need this if Apple Music already uploads our collection.

And this image, taken from the iTunes Match FAQ states what we know already i.e. with iTunes Match all of your music is in iCloud.  This is what Apple Music states so whichever service you have of the two your music will be stored in the cloud for access wherever you are.

Ok, so what should I do?

I would say that it's safe to assume that based on the above (taken from the Apple site) you can cancel your iTunes Match subscription come the 30th June if you want to use Apple Music.

I would recommend that based on when yours auto-renews (mine did in Feb this year) you make a decision to either go all in and cancel straight away or use the free three month trial to give it a real test and take it from there.

Let me know how you get on.
