Will the Apple Watch help me with mindfulness and staying in the moment?

March 30, 2015 in EDITORIAL, TECHNOLOGY

If you aren’t aware Mindfulness is the practise of being more in the moment, through daily meditation it aims to help you stay more focussed on what you are doing, reduce your stress levels and generally be more in the moment.  This is more important than ever with the influx of products and services that we have at our disposal these days.

I am as guilty as the next person when it comes to checking Twitter every 10 minutes and on getting a simple notification on my phone getting lost down the rabbit hole, what I mean here is that you unlock your phone, deal with the notification but then end up getting distracted for more time than you wanted.

Aside from fitness I’m most looking forward to the watch’s ability to let me stay in the moment.  When I used a Pebble it was the best feature that I found, I told my phone to only send me important notifications (calls, messages…) then when I had something of importance I could simply check my wrist and either deal with it then and there or just acknowledge the message i.e. not have to take my phone out of my pocket.

The limitations on Pebble I found was that I couldn’t reply to the message, the Apple Watch will.  Linking well with the iPhone I can simply quick reply via voice or the suggested answer that the phone gives me - thus keeping me in the moment.

So, we are merely weeks away from the launch and I for one am really looking forward to trying it out and seeing if it does indeed keep me in the moment.
