How to sand the finish off a guitar neck

A couple of weeks ago I took the extreme (for me) measure and took some of the finish off my Fender Baja Telecaster.

I like as thin a finish as possible on a guitar neck and the thick poly just didn't do it for me.

I did this in a fairly quick and dirty fashion but it works for me

I started with the harsher P120, rubbing it it across the neck lengthwise (so from neck joint to headstock).

Once I was happy that I had taken enough of the finish off I used P2000 to finish and give me a nice smooth finish.

Clean off the dust with a wet paper towel.

I used some mineral oil (from Fast Fret) to finish it off, let it dry for an hour then I was good to go.

I have to say that this has been one of the best mods I have ever done to a guitar and am looking at the rest of my collection pondering what to do...

Have you done this?
