It's a tricky time if you are an Apple Watch fan, watchOS 3 has made a big difference to the original model and we have two new models to chose from.
watchOS 3 on your existing watch
watchOS 3 has made a big difference to the way that I use my Apple Watch, it feels quicker and more cohesive as an overall package. It's has given a breath of fresh air to an OS that was (for me) having performance lag and a confusing workflow.
Series 1 is the new base model Apple Watch, think of it as the same as the original but with a faster processor. It's the most cost effective way to get into the Apple Watch (if you want a brand new one).
This is really the new Apple Watch
- Faster processor
- Improved battery
- 2 times brighter display
I'm liking the look of the NIKE edition, I'm not currently allowed to run (a long story) but love the look of the watchface and strap. It's a series 2 tailored for runners. I am tempted by the look but don't want a smart coach hasstling me to run.
Should you upgrade?
If you are on an original watch and want to use GPS or swim lengths then you should upgrade. The series 2 is so health and fitness focussed that unless you are a runner or a swimmer I don't see the upgrade necessary.
If you use your watch every day (I do) I still don't see it as a compelling upgrade, watchOS 3 speeds up the experience and as someone that doesn't use a lot of apps it's absolutely fine.
